What's going on with the boat?

After ten years living on Tarquilla we have moved to land. I'm often asked if we love the house or miss the boat and the real answer is - both. We still have Tarquilla and we are open to all options at the moment as far as her future is concerned. We will carry on working on her, it would be great to be able to sail her again. The Scilly Isles, Portishead marina, Bristol harbour and Falmouth are all places we have talked about as well as many others further afield. But, on the other hand, if a family was looking for a boat, ready to do the preparation she needs and wanted to take her on then we would sell her. She is not ready to sail off into the sunset but has a lot of life left in her. If you or someone you know would be interested then please contact us. She is 3 ply cold moulded, 42 foot long, one off design built in the 1960's. She has 2 double cabins and 2 single berths, a good size saloon, a decent size galley, head and a covered cockpit. She has two engines and a full suit of sails. We have lots more photos and can provide more details or answer questions. In the meantime, this blog has come to a natural pause for now as we take on new adventures.

Blogtober 10 - Instagram

@sarahontarquilla

I know that Instagram has a reputation for being full of people who are heavily photoshopped, wafting through fields of lavender or eating cake but there is so much more to it than that.

Yep, I took a picture of my coffee and half eaten cake

As a form of microblogging it can be a great way to reate and share stories. There are communities of adventurers, wanderers, photographers, historians and creatives. There are people capturing everyday life, the enjoyment of being oudoors and those capturing how special our country and coast are. It is easy to find like minded people, those with the same interests as you or people showcasing things you'd like to know more about. I love seeing places I know through other peoples eyes. I agree that it can be harmful - as can all social media - but it really is what you make it. You have the choice to follow who you want and choose what you see.

There are many who just enjoy taking pictures on their phones and professional photographers who create amazing images and everything in between. I chop and change between phone snaps and images taken using the 'proper' cameras; sometimes even with special bits of kit like the long lens or photoball if I'm feeling fancy. I follow lots of different people and have a feed full of beautiful sights, interesting places and amazing works of art. I've also found independents selling jewellery, stationary, soaps and other lovely things through it.  If you're already on Instagram feel free to find me over there or drop your tag below. Happy snapping everyone.
