Summer reading challenge 2016
“If my books can help children become readers then I feel I
have accomplished something important”
Roald Dahl
There are many events being held throughout Britain
this year recognising the fact that Roald Dahl would have been 100 years old
this year. The release of The BFG film is eagerly anticipated by many children. There is a Roald Dahl Day planned promising scrumdiddlyumptious
treats and giggles of mirth for all and this years summer reading challenge has
been announced as ‘The big friendly read’.
Every year all primary school aged children (4-11 year olds)
in Britain are invited to join in this
challenge to read 6 books from their local library. Children are rewarded with
stickers and certificates.
Anything which helps children discover the magic of reading
and the worlds it can lead to has to be applauded. If you know of any little
ones who would love to take up the challenge, they can sign up from this
weekend – good luck and enjoy.
