Na-what-Ma-who?

November is NationalNovelWritingMonth. Well, not really national because it now involves thousands of people all over the world as it has grown so much over the years since it was started in America. The idea is to challenge yourself to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days.

For me, quite apart from the idea of the challenge it is a good chance to write in a different genre and play around with ideas; in the same way that training in the swimming pool can make you a better runner.

It is a lot of words and not a lot of time. The challenge (as you would expect) has its own website complete with forums for support and advice and the ability to upload word counts as the month goes on (http://nanowrimo.org). It is for writers the equivalent of doing a marathon or an ocean crossing.

So it’s notebooks, computers and sharpened pencils at the ready for the 1st November and see what can be created.

  1. Good luck with it Sarah. Maybe I'll put it in the diary for next year. I think I said the same last year, but forgot all about it. I think I'd need to be mentally and practically prepared for November 1st. I was only reminded about it when reading another blog on October 30th. Well, those are my pitiful excuses!! Happy writing!!
