What's going on with the boat?

After ten years living on Tarquilla we have moved to land. I'm often asked if we love the house or miss the boat and the real answer is - both. We still have Tarquilla and we are open to all options at the moment as far as her future is concerned. We will carry on working on her, it would be great to be able to sail her again. The Scilly Isles, Portishead marina, Bristol harbour and Falmouth are all places we have talked about as well as many others further afield. But, on the other hand, if a family was looking for a boat, ready to do the preparation she needs and wanted to take her on then we would sell her. She is not ready to sail off into the sunset but has a lot of life left in her. If you or someone you know would be interested then please contact us. She is 3 ply cold moulded, 42 foot long, one off design built in the 1960's. She has 2 double cabins and 2 single berths, a good size saloon, a decent size galley, head and a covered cockpit. She has two engines and a full suit of sails. We have lots more photos and can provide more details or answer questions. In the meantime, this blog has come to a natural pause for now as we take on new adventures.

What my friends think I do.....

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."

I was reminded the other day of the pictures going round facebook recently of ‘what the boss thinks I do, what my mum thinks I do etc.’ there have been several variations of this including nurses, scientists and parents. At the time I was hanging upside down painting a mould stained wall whilst the whole boat was rocking in the wind, not quite the pims on the deck lifestyle or desert island with white sands and a singular palm tree which some might imagine but that’s not really our style anyway. I’m not complaining, please don’t get me wrong, I would much rather be painting a wall than lying on a beach, although I have no objection to the fact that we do now have time in our lives to sit sometimes with a glass of something nice in one hand and a book in the other or spend the afternoon playing on the beach. I love the mixture of experiences we have, I actually enjoy preparing lessons and writing letters and blogs, I even - say it quietly! - find cleaning satisfying. Whilst cleaning the toilet and washing up may not be my favourite things they have to be done and if constant mould/condensation removal and emptying our separating toilet is the price I pay for our adventure and all the fun stuff we’re doing, that’s fine by me.
